How You Can Help

Thank you for your interest in helping the companion animals and pets of Lethbridge. There are several ways you can help.

Be a Responsible Pet Owner

  • Find out more about and encourage responsible pet ownership, a critical component of which is pet sterilization and vaccination.
  • Become a crusader for animal welfare!

Become an Active Member of NOKA

  • An individual membership costs $10 per year, and a family membership costs $15 per year.
  • We will send you a NOKA membership card in the mail and a NOKA information package, and will keep you informed by email. Get involved in local animal welfare!

Make a Donation to NOKA or a Local Rescue

  • Donations specified for NOKA’s spay/neuter fund will go directly to our subsidized spay/neuter fund to help decrease the number of unwanted pets in the City.

Volunteer for an Animal Rescue Group

  • Volunteer your time and resources for Purrfect Endings, People for Animal Welfare, Prairie Dog Canine Rescue, Windy City Rescue, or the Humane Society.
  • Make a difference in an animal’s life by volunteering at the City Animal Shelter. Cats and kittens in the shelter would love the attention, and a dog or two would love a scratch behind the ears and a nice walk. The shelter is located at 2405 41st N and the hours of operation are 9:00 AM till 6:00 PM weekdays and 11:00 AM till 5:00 PM on Saturdays. You may contact the animal shelter at 320- 4099.
  • Become a foster parent for a local animal rescue group. This is a great way to save lives in the comfort of your own home. Foster parents provide temporary care (a few days to a few weeks, generally) for infant kittens or puppies too young to be permanently placed. Or they provide a home environment for a pet that is still waiting to find its forever home. To find out more about fostering, call one of Lethbridge’s animal rescue groups on our links page.

Express Your Concerns to Your Aldermen and Mayor

  • Express your views about the killing of healthy and adoptable pets.
  • Let them know that animal welfare is important to the residents of Lethbridge.

Support Veterinary Clinics that Offer Low-Cost Sterilization

  • Show your support for these progressive veterinarians who are doing their part to decrease pet overpopulation the humane way
